I have been melting glass in some form as long as I can remember.  As a child growing up in the 50's, everyone had garbage burn  pits in their back yards (image that!) I would comb through all the debris and pick put the melted globs of glass. The Noxema containers were a beautiful blue! I picked up sea glass on the beach, I collected old bottles, fragments of crockery...In the early 1990's I became involved in ceramics with a Zen Buddhist Catholic nun who had studied with an elderly  National Treasure potter in Japan. From her I found a voice with simplicity, using my art to capture the essence of a thing, rather than be representational. It was a short journey  from firing porcelain clay to melting glass.  I primarily work with kiln formed glass, but I also use a glass torch for sculptural pieces, and elements for kiln casting.
Although my focus is on larger sculptural pieces, I also enjoy making custom tile pieces, such as backsplashes, and accent tile inserts. I welcome commissions and questions. I also teach small classes for fusing at my workshop with an emphasis on fun and learning for beginners. I love glass and I want to make glass art accessible for everyone. Check out my gallery page, and my class blog.
